On May 31st, our colleague, Marie-Christine Bernard, from the Dealer Services division of iA Auto and Home Insurance, in Quebec City, participated in the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge.
This fundraiser brings the community together to help provide services to children fighting cancer and to invest in clinical research. Because of the isolation measures in place, the event was live-streamed on Facebook for Marie-Christine’s supporters and on Zoom with the Leucan team.
Thanks to contributions from her supporters, Marie-Christine raised $1,550!
She decided to participate in the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge to personally support the community. She tells us, in her own words, what moved her to make this meaningful and caring gesture.
“In March, the pandemic required us to remain isolated and to put our lives on hold so that we could get through it and stay healthy.
Then, I got to thinking about sick kids in the hospital and their families. I imagined the sadness of having to leave one’s child alone in the hospital because access was limited. At that moment, I saw an ad announcing the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge. That’s when it clicked! Despite everything that is happening, I truly believed that I could make a difference.
I was lucky enough that my employer put in place mechanisms so that I could continue working, from home, but the families of sick kids have no choice but to be there to support their little treasure and the costs associated with that are significant.
I wanted to make sure that my contribution to the challenge could help provide financial support, even modest, to these families so they can continue to focus their energy on their children and have one less thing to worry about.
And hair? Well, it grows back! It’s nothing compared to what sick kids are going through. They don’t have a choice but to lose their hair.
Through this humble gesture, I wanted to show that hair, no hair, beauty comes from the heart and even if they’re sick, these children are beautiful.
I’m very proud of what I accomplished and thank iA for its support. Once again, I’d like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for donating!”
Congratulations Marie-Christine!
