Great achievements for the Proud Maries 14th Ride to Conquer Cancer!

June 23, 2022

On June 12, Daphne King's team participated in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. Daphne is Vice-President, Sales, National Accounts.

The 38-members team did their part to find cure and rode over 200 km over two days, from Toronto to Niagara. Each rider made a valiant effort and, as a team, raised $171,717 for cancer research, thanks to 1,174 donations. The team’s goal of $156,000 was outstandingly surpassed.

Touched by Daphne’s involvement, iA Financial Group supported the team by making a donation under its donation policy for employees who get involved in their community.

Here are some comments from Daphne about this year's event:

I wanted to reach out personally and thank you so much for sponsoring me for the Ride to Conquer Cancer this year. Because of your generosity, I was able to surpass my fundraising goal.

The Proud Maries rode over 200 km over two days, from Toronto to Niagara. Sunday was especially challenging because of the rain, hail, and winds that were never at our backs and cold temperatures.

But we made it to the finish line as a team and many of us walked (slowly) straight to the registration desk to sign up for next year.

Willie Macrae, one of our teammates was interviewed at one of the pitstops on Saturday. Sadly, his wife Marie did not win her battle with cancer. It is in her honour that we are wearing our pink jerseys with her name on them.

I feel very fortunate to be able participate in this event. I ride in honour of my parents who fought this terrible disease at such young ages and for my friends who are presently fighting it.

I hope there will be a day very soon when we no longer need to do this ride, as they will have found a cure for this horrible disease.

Thank you once again for your support.

Congratulations to the entire team and thanks to all those who donated. And most importantly, good luck to all the courageous cancer fighters.
