Mylène Tremblay and ALS: A family united behind a cause

October 17, 2023

On September 24, 2023, Mylène Tremblay, iA Financial Group Taxation Technician, organized Charlevoix’s fourth annual Walk to End ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) at the Parc du Havre in La Malbaie.

Mylène's commitment to this cause goes back nearly 20 years. She tells us how her involvement has grown over that time.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) first touched my life when my paternal grandmother was diagnosed in 1998. Then, in 2002, my father began having his first symptoms.

Some close family friends got together in 2004 to organize Charlevoix’s first Walk to End ALS, and I’ve been involved ever since.

In 2018, my sister and I were asked if we wanted to take charge of organizing the event, and we agreed. This is the fourth year that I’ve been involved in coordinating the walk.

Every year, we have 200 to 300 people from across the Charlevoix region join us to take part in this symbolic walk alongside people living with ALS, their families and friends.

I’m committed to this cause because in Charlevoixjust like everywhere elsepeople continue to be diagnosed with this disease, which still has no cure.

Inspired by Mylène’s dedication, iA Financial Group supported the walk financially through its donation policy for employees who are involved in their community.

This year, a total of $18,817 was raised for the ALS Society of Quebec during the walk in La Malbaie, far surpassing the $5,000 goal. The donation will be used to fund services for people and families living with ALS and to support ALS research in Canada so that a cure for this degenerative disease can be found.
